Joann, I would be all about exploring the non-tourist areas of NOLA on a longer trip. There are clearly good veg options --we just weren't near them, (and were also traveling with a meat-eater who wanted po'boys and muffalettas). Whitney, liquid smoke is pretty easy to find in major grocery stores.
